I learned yesterday, that the U.S. has a new Poet Laureate. Donald Hall, we barely knew ye...I hope his health is ok. It would not surprise me if Laura and hubby simply didn't appreciate him.

Welcome, Charles Simic to this position!

And congratulations, Jilly Dybka for posting this a day before the mainstream media!: http://PoetryHut.com/wordpress/

Let's hope the link works...

I am only repeating a rumor here. It is only a rumor, but someone suggested that Simic pulled a Foetry when he judged Sarabande's contest and selected Deb Tall. Anyone have info?

Just this mention: http://foetry.com/forum/index.php?topic=491.msg7455#msg7455
I think Deb Tall died, so we can't ask her.

Well, that didn't take long. In 1997, DT and her hubby co-edited an anthology from Norton which included excerpts from Charles Simic's notebooks. http://www2.wwnorton.com/catalog/spring97/poet.htm
Then in '99, Simic selected DT's book as "winner" of the Sarabande Books prize. Looks like we have a Foet Laureate.

OK -- I did a little write-up on this shady deal.
